The Idea Foundry is filled with many-a-maker, but our very own Chief Facilities and Shop Manager is truly a jack-of-all-trades. With skills ranging from bronze casting to the design and construction of fine furniture, many of the beautiful objects you see around the Idea Foundry were brought to life by Matt Hatcher, including the front desk! If he isn't evangelizing for the maker movement as a co-founder of the Idea Foundry, he is surely elbows-deep in one of his many projects.
Meet Matt Hatcher...
Q: Why do you do what you do?
I've been a Maker before I knew what a Maker was. Creating something from scratch is one of the most rewarding things a human can do. Whether that creation is art, a poem, cookies, or a piece of furniture. I'm lucky to be able to use my skills to create, design, and problem solve on a daily basis.
Q: What's the best advice you've ever received?
Don't be afraid to fail. Every successful person failed many, many times. If you're failing, and not giving up, you're on the path to success.
Q: Tell us something you are proud of...
Having a part in making the Idea Foundry what it is today.
Q: List 5 things you LOVE
1. My wife Rebecca
2. Riding my motorcycle
4. The smell of fresh cut walnut
5. The Idea Foundry
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
I'm very fortunate to be able to say that I'm already doing it.
