There is no shortage of mischief-making here at the Idea Foundry, and sometimes it takes a military professional to keep us in shape! Customer Service Supervisor Carla Pace is a kind and supportive team member, with a no-nonsense approach to scheduling and logistics. Her background in the U.S. Army is a testament to that. Have no fear though, Carla knows what it's like to be a maker - she also has her own art studio at 400 West Rich. Whether it’s booking your meeting or organizing efforts at the front desk, you'll find Carla helping members get the job done.

As a large makerspace, we get volunteers and visitors from all walks of life, but it's not every day that one of them sticks around to become family! Quick with a joke and always ready to collaborate, our Workshop Processes Facilitator sports an Irish accent and a witty charm that can’t be denied. Between organizing shop programming and taking charge of the shop supplies store, you'll catch her on the back dock tending to her plants.

At the very core of every maker is a devotion to the cultivation of knowledge, and continuous improvement. Education can take on many forms, and at the Idea Foundry, we encourage learning and curiosity of all kinds! This is why it is vital to have a Programming Coordinator who is passionate about learning, and empowering others to learn as well. From helping instructors develop their classes, to personally taking each beta class, Nicole Coleman cares deeply about the quality of continued education here at the Idea Foundry.

The Idea Foundry is filled with many-a-maker, but our very own Chief Facilities and Shop Manager is truly a jack-of-all-trades. With skills ranging from bronze casting to the design and construction of fine furniture, many of the beautiful objects you see around the Idea Foundry were brought to life by Matt Hatcher, including the front desk! If he isn't evangelizing for the maker movement as a co-founder of the Idea Foundry, he is surely elbows-deep in one of his many projects.

The Idea Foundry is run by a small team with a lot of heart, and all of the work is well worth the joy we get back from seeing our friends and community succeed. No one believes this more than our Member Services Manager Kate Baldwin. Kate's goal is to create connections, and to support our growing membership at the Idea Foundry. On any given day you'll catch her giving tours, fixing doors, or conconcting new initiatives, like "First Friday Doughnuts!" With every decision, she aims to foster an environment of creative collaboration. The rest is up to you!

The Art of CNC
Ben Satterfield is working on a classic project with a new twist, bringing a modern look to a 100+ year-old carving. His client recently remodeled their home and a large carving that was displayed over their front door had severely deteriorated over time. The classic piece was beyond repair and the homeowner was ready to replace it with something "more her style." The challenge was finding a design and technique that would pay homage to the classic wood carving and also fit a more modern representation.
