We are proud to see Idea Foundry makers grow and even eventually outgrow our space, taking their entrepreneurial journey in new directions. It's even better when we can be a part of that development, and bring a devoted member onto our team professionally. Service Coordinator Ben Slobodien was one of our very first volunteers, and over the years has spent more time participating in and building the maker culture here than can be quantified. You might catch him smiling at the front desk and offering assistance to our members, but you'll also find his real work at his workshop table. His art has become a pillar of Idea Foundry tours, and something that both members and staff watch with anticipation as it grows.
Meet Ben Slobodien...
Q: Why do you do what you do?
B: Who knows why I do some of the things that I do. Drives I have more awareness of include: creating, because if I don't create, I start to go mad, and trying to be the best thread in the fabric of the universe that I can be.
Q: What's the best advice you've ever received?
B: "Inspiration is for amateurs - the rest of us just show up and get to work." - Chuck Close
Q: Tell us something you are proud of...
B: I can paint a mean eyeball!
Q: List 5 things you LOVE
- My family and some of my friends
- Unreasonably long walks at night
- Being asleep. I'm at my best when I'm asleep
- The idea of learning a musical instrument and then never actually doing it
- My rabbit, Amélie
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
B: Cosmic dust hurtling through the vast emptiness of space
