Learn how to use the glass cutting saw and flat lap grinder in this orientation to glass cutting class!

Learn to use lapidary equipment to cut, shape, and polish glass. After this orientation level course, you will be cleared to use the glass cutter and flat lapidary grinder. You will gain an understanding of the safety aspects of working in a wet environment with glass. Each student will bring up to 3 bottles and leave with at least one finished cut bottle that can be used as a planter, candle holder, etc. This class goes NOT finish cut glass as a drinking vessel.

This class will provide practical knowledge of safety and setting up equipment to do a basic glass cutting project. Please bring up to 3 bottles with labels removed and washed thoroughly. Wine bottles are the most forgiving for beginners. Please do not bring "irreplaceable" or otherwise special glass containers, beginners will likely break glass while learning.

Little to no experience needed, however, general comfort with saws and grinders is preferred. This is a tool clearance class.

What to wear:

Clothing and shoes will get both wet and dirty, Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that you do not mind getting wet. Long hair must be tied back. Do not wear any rings during the class. You will be putting on provided protective gear, so wearing layers is recommended.

Shannon has been working with glass for over 30 years. He created several neonĀ sculptures for Greek artist, Stephen Antonakos. He volunteered with Boy Scouts of America for 16 years. Shannon collects vintage garden tractors.
